REDLINE BMX's DeWilde & Godet Invade Spain

Redline RidersThe Main in Spain: REDLINE’s Robert DeWilde & Damien Godet in the Run

Madrid, Spain: In a prelude to the Olympic debut for BMX, racers from all over the Globe converged on Spain for the first UCi Supercross event of 2007. With a wild ‘n crazy track, similar in many ways to what you’ll see in Beijing, China next year, the BMX world came out in big numbers. Amongst those were the Dutch Redline team; led by the guy who is no stranger to UCi points–Robert DeWilde.

Aboard their custom Orange REDLINE FLIGHT bikes, the Dutch riders made their presence known; with DeWilde going all the way to the big show. Also in the main event was REDLINE~FRANCE racer and National team member Damien Godet.

With two out of eight bikes in the gate being Redlines, the odds were in RL’s favor. But nothing was easy, as they’d be up against some of the best riders in the entire World. In the big show, it was Australia’s Kahlon Young scoring the win, but hot on his heels was the blazing orange of the Netherland’s DeWilde. Damien Godet and his Flight bike fought to hold on to the fifth place position.

“I had a good gate,” said Affro-Bob. “I felt like I had a chance to win but went a tick too low over the first jump and lost a bit of speed. I had a good battle going on with Cristian Bercerine, all around the track, and managed to hold him off for the silver.”

The best news is that with this finish, DeWilde is now pre-qualified for the Olympics.

“I’m half way there,” DeWilde told us, undoubtedly with a big ol’ smile on his face.

Here are the final results:
1st Khalen Young Australia

2nd Robert DeWIlde The Netherlands

3rd Cristian Bercerine Argentina

4th Donny Robinson USA

5th Damien Godet France

6th Mike Day USA

7th Derek Betcher USA

8th Roger Rinderknecht Switzerland

“All of the races were very close, including the time trials,” says Damien Godet. “The level was high, with riders from everywhere. Just two or three top riders were missing! I had good feelings on the track and loved those BIG jumps. Now I am more confident, for going in to Belgium for the first and second rounds of the European Champ series.”
